Sopranos often steal the show, but every now and then other voices sing the high note. In Baroque France, for example, composers and audiences were very fond of the haute-contre, a high male voice that requires a technique few singers have attempted since. As heir to this tradition, Reinoud Van Mechelen focuses on this often overlooked repertoire. With his ensemble a nocte temporis, he explores the amazing music of Rameau and his contemporaries, starring legendary haute-contre Pierre Jéliote, the first to sing the part of the nymph Platée.
