Dance films with live orchestra
Debussy's unfulfilled longing to go to sea may perhaps explain the great importance of water in his work. Or was it precisely the elusive mobility of the waves that inspired him? La mer, one of his 'water pieces', is an undeniable highlight of his multi-faceted and refined oeuvre. The musical colours of Debussy inspired musician/filmmaker Thierry De Mey to create several dance films with a live orchestra. In Prélude à la mer, he contrasts Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's choreography with harshness of a not-so natural disaster: the disappearance of the Aral Sea.
