A 19th-century Western myth from another perspective
The Bruges dance season opens with The Jungle Book. Akram Khan, who danced the role of Mowgli himself when he was a child, has created a new interpretation of the story of the little boy, lost in the jungle. Central to Khan’s version is the interconnectedness of humans, animals and nature. He beautifully and compelling deploys his ten dancers and their voices in an otherwise completely digital set. Jocelyn Pook – who previously provided the soundscape of acclaimed films, such as Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut – composed the score.
