Heavenly voices embody a deep spirituality
Compared to his operas and symphonic works, Tchaikovsky's church music leads a rather discreet existence, and that despite the fact that Tchaikovsky passionately wanted to breathe new life into the age-old Russian Orthodox tradition. His Liturgy of St John Chrisostom embraces the listener in a grand prayer. Sigvards Klava completes the programme with Ešenvalds' Stars, an ode to the beauty of the night sky, Mahler's monumental Adagietto adapted for voices, and Arvo Pärt's mystical 7 Magnificat-Antiphons.
