Twice prize: star orchestra plays audience favourites

Mozart nicknamed his friend Anton Stadler – for whom he wrote his Clarinet Concerto – Nàtschibinitschibi: a combination of miser and man of folly. Elgar also liked to tease his friends with nicknames. He dedicated Nimrod – the best-known of his Enigma Variations – to his friend and publisher August Jäger. ‘Nimrod’ means 'matchless hunter', but can also mean 'fool'. Friends can get away with that sort of ribbing. A genial evening with and for friends.
