Dream away on a bed of strings

Iconic music. In this case, that term is highly appropriate! The Protecting Veil is based on eight icons that depict eight episodes in the life of the Virgin Mary. In it John Tavener tries ‘to capture some of the almost cosmic power of the Mother of God’. In this performance, the mouthpiece of his heavenly visions is no one less than Pieter Wispelwey. No less iconic is Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. BRYGGEN – the Bruges string orchestra of Jolente De Maeyer, who takes care of the solos in Richter – make the music sparkle in his ingenious recomposition of this much-loved classic.
